Course Introduction:

This is an entry-level Qualification for those who are in or want to enter the field of Education, Training, and Development specifically within the sub-field of Early Childhood Development (ECD). This qualification is aimed at people who are already practicing within the field without formal recognition as well as for those who wish to enter the field. The qualification enables recipients to plan and prepare for early childhood development; facilitate and monitor the development of babies, toddlers, and young children; and provide care and support to babies, toddlers, and young children. The qualification is offered as a distance study course with learners working at ECD Centres.

Childcare Worker Training 101

Course Introduction:

The Children’s Act requires that all staff practicing in Nursery Schools must have formal training pertaining to Early Childhood Development. This short course is therefore aimed at Nursery School Assistants and Teachers with no formal training/qualification. The learning areas covered in the course include Responsibilities of a Childcare Worker, Safety in Classroom and Playground, Hygiene, Observation and Reporting, Caring for Babies, Assisting with the Classroom Program, Milestones per Age Group, Discipline in the Classroom and Playground Supervision etc.

Positive Discipline:

Understanding toddler behavior/origin, reasons children misbehave, and learning to listen to behavior. This course will equip you with the techniques of positive discipline and tools to guide and discipline children.

This course is about classroom setup, colour of walls, formal, informal and free choice learning areas. The aim is to empower teachers and assistants to affect a productive learning environment. The importance of managing your classroom so that effective learning can take place.

Children learn through play. They instinctively slide into play mode without thinking! This is a “how to” course for Nursery School Teachers and assistants that will give them the tools to effect good learning by playing.

Childcare Safety:

Developing and managing a safe school. This course should be attended by ALL staff. We often hear of or experience children that are injured at Nursery Schools. We must be aware and constantly apply our minds as to the safety of our classroom, our children and the school. If something happens, we must feel that it was truly an accident and not that someone was negligent.
